Converenza COP24: Il ruolo delle foreste nella mitigazione dei cambiamenti climatici

La Conferenza sui Cambiamenti Climatici COP24 in corso a Katowice si concluderà oggi, 14 Dicembre. La Confederazione Europea dei Proprietari Forestali ha colto questa opportunità per pubblicare un Comunicato Congiunto per enfatizzare il ruolo che le foreste ed il settore forestale devono giocare per la mitigazione e l’adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici. Con il progetto LIFE CLIMARK diamo supporto all’idea che “la gestione forestale sostenibile e adattativa è una soluzione per controbilanciare gli aspetti negativi dovuti al cambiamento climatico, creando sinergie tra gli obiettivi di mitigazione e adattamento al cambiamento climatico stesso”. L’obiettivo è far si che “foreste gestite in modo sostenibile diventino più resilienti ai disturbi naturali, come le tempeste ed il fuoco, e che possano anche crescere meglio, con un conseguente maggior sequestro di carbonio e fornendo più materiale rinnovabile, per sostituire energie e materiali a maggior consumo di carbonio.

Su questo argomento, condividiamo il report «From Science to policy núm.7» pubblicato dall’EFI, sul ruolo di “sostituzione” dei prodotti legnosi per la mitigazione dei cambiamenti climatici.

COP24 Summit: The role of forests in mitigating climate change

This Friday, December 14th, ends the Climate Change Conference COP24 in Katowice, and the Confederation of European Forest owners has used this opportunity to launch a Joint statement emphasizing the active role that forests and the forest sector should play in climate change mitigation and adaptation. From the LIFE CLIMARK project we give support to the idea that “a solution to counteract the negative tendencies posed by climate change is sustainable adaptive forest management which creates synergies between climate change mitigation and adaptation needs”. Thus, “Sustainably managed forests will become more resilient against natural disturbances, such as storms and fires, have a higher productivity leading to higher carbon sequestration and in result providing more raw material to substitute carbon intensive material and energy.”

Regarding this latter point, we also want to share the new report “From Science to policy núm.7” edited by EFI, on the substitution effects of wood-based products in climate change mitigation.

Cimera COP24: El papel dels boscos en la mitigació del canvi climàtic

Coincidint amb la cimera del clima de les Nacions Unides COP24 que finalitza avui divendres  a Katowice (Polònia), la confederació de propietaries/àries forestals europeus (CEPF) llença una nota de posicionament sobre el rol actiu que hauria de jugar els boscos i el sector forestal en l’adaptació i i mitigació al canvi climàtic. Des del Projecte LIFE CLIMARK ens sumem a la idea que “la gestió forestal sostenible crea sinègies entre les necessitats d’adaptació al canvi climàtic però també de mitigació del mateix: els boscos gestionats de manera sostenible serán mes resilients enfront a les pertorbacions naturals, com tempestes o incendis, i augmentaran la productivitat, el què permetrà un major segrest de carboni així com un assortiment de matèries primeres renovables capaces de substituir materials i energies basades en combustibles fòssils”.

En referencia a aquest darrer punt, ens fem també ressò del nou informe “From Science to policy núm.7” publicat per l’EFI sobre els efectes de substitució que tenen els productes basats en la fusta en la mitigació del canvi climàtic.

Cumbre COP24: El papel de los bosques en la mitigación del cambio climático

Coincidiendo con la cumbre del clima de las Naciones Unidas COP24 que finaliza hoy viernes en Katowice (Polonia), la Confederación de propietarios/as forestales europeos/as (CEPF) lanza una nota de posicionamiento sobre el rol activo que deberían jugar los bosques y el sector forestal en la adaptación y la mitigación al cambio climático.

Desde el proyecto LIFE CLIMARK nos sumamos a la idea de que “la gestión forestal sostenible crea sinergias entre las necesidades de adaptación al cambio climático, pero también de mitigación del mismo: los bosques gestionados de forma sostenible serán mas resilientes ante las perturbaciones naturales, como tempestades o incendios, y aumentarán la productividad, lo que permitirá una mayor retención de carbono y un surtido de materias primas renovables capaces de sustituir materiales y energías basadas en combustibles fósiles”.
